A person who spiked treats with tranquilliser and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.

The accused was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the children "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the next day.

She said the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained materials including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his worries.

She explained the defendant continued to play the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining the police response of the events.

The prosecutor said the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement again.

She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
